The Des Moines Register just released a story saying the HUD secretary is "baffled" by Chet Culver's remarks regarding flood funding, stating that "clearly, there is confusion" on his part.

This is what happens when you put people in charge of government who have no freaking clue what they're doing.  We're paging Kathleen Blanco about now.

Preston said Culver had erroneously told reporters that the remaining $200 million had already been allocated to Iowa. “That is not correct. There is $200 million that is unallocated that will go among various other states based upon those damage estimates. However, it is more important from my perspective for Iowa to get in its recovery plan for that $85 million before we worry about the other piece.” he said.

Preston also said that Culver had erroneously stated publicly that HUD had received the plan from Iowa. “HUD has not received a completed action plan from Iowa. We have worked very closely with the disaster staff from the state of Iowa, providing them with technical assistance, and answering many questions along the way … However, we have not gotten the final plan.”

So, either Chet Culver is stupid, or he's getting some REALLY bad advice from his staffers.

Good thing he created that brand new taxpayer-funded, permanent Rebuild Iowa bureaucracy to deal with such things, in addition to the THREE MILLION DOLLARS he is paying consultants for thirty days of work.  Time to get our money back, if you ask me.

Under the law, Iowa must allow a public comment period, which has been trimmed from normal 30 days to seven days, he added.

“We can then free up the money … Once again, we have not received it,” Preston said.

Seriously?  You have high-priced consultants.  You had a flood commission.  You created a 43-person bureaucracy.  YOU HAD THREE MONTHS.

And you can't fill out a stupid f'ing plan?

“I think we are confused, both by the stance of the governor … and by some of the statements made about having already submitted a plan which wasn’t submitted and by having access to funding which has not been granted yet,” Preston said. “We wanted to make sure that information was clear.”

You just want to throw your hands up in the air.  PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN G-D TENTS FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!  They've lived in them for THREE MONTHS.

This idiot governor had better screw his f'ing head on straight, get a spine and start leading.  IT'S YOUR F'ING JOB!!

What a disappointment this guy is.  We didn't expect much, but we certainly never thought he would be so arrogant, so despondent, so aloof and uncaring - so much so, in fact - that he is actually hurting Iowans who are at their last rope, praying for survival.

We have refugees right here in this state, and THIS governor is pissing all over them.

Oh well. At least he knows how to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democrats. Screw the flood victims, right Chet?
